Helpful hints on the way to the chapel

Planning the dream wedding that you have always hoped for since you were a little girl can be magical and exciting. But let's be real, it can also be extremely overwhelming. There's plenty of questions that need answers. Should I have buffet style or family style dinner? What color dresses should my bridesmaids  wear, that will look good on everyone? What D.J. can I afford that won't play the chicken dance or the Y.M.C.A? So, here's some helpful hints from the area I know best, flowers. These are some common mistakes that bride's make while dealing with their florist. Hopefully, this will help "taking the plunge" a little less stressful.

  • Choosing strongly scented flowers:
Choosing flowers that are highly aromatic for your centerpieces might not be the best idea, especially for an indoor wedding. Guests with allergies will be spending more time sneezing then actually enjoying themselves.

  • Ruling out pricey blooms:
Everyone is watching expenses when planning a wedding, but you can get more bang for your buck with more expensive flowers. For example, flowers like peonies and hydrangea can tend to be more expensive but they cover more space and have more impact then a bouquet of just roses.

  • Choosing only one color for your flowers:
A lot of brides try to match their flowers to their bridesmaids dresses or their own dress, this is a big no-no. Your'e going to end up with your flowers blending into your dresses and bad pictures. Quick fix for this situation is to have an accent color. I always suggest a bride have at least 2 color schemes picked out for her big day. The more colors the merrier.

  • Not communicating your vision to your florist:
When meeting with a bride, I always suggest they bring photos of any bouquets, centerpieces, any kind of photo of flowers or colors they like. This way it's clear on what the bride is expecting. But, knowing what a bride doesn't like is just as important. Don't be shy with your florist, if you hate red roses, make that very clear. You have to trust your florist. We want nothing more then to make your wedding like you have always dreamed of.

  • Refusing to make any compromises:
Some brides can have a set idea in their minds of exactly what they want for their big day. This can be awesome or a touchy subject. Flowers come and go with the seasons, so this makes it more difficult to compromise when a bride's heart is set on that one flower. For example, peonies are usually only available between April and July, so if you want peonies for your September wedding, you're going to have to either special order them from Europe or compromise.

  • Try to see the big picture:
Bride's often see the centerpieces and bouquets that they want, but not the entire reception with guests seated. If you have booked a location for it's beautiful views, steer clear of tall, large centerpieces. they will just obstruct the amazing view you paid for. If the wedding is at night time, votive candles give a very romantic ambiance.

And lastly, This is YOUR big day! Soak everything in.All of the stress and planning has added up to this one, perfect day. And yes, it will be perfect. Just remember to smile until your cheeks feel like they're going to fall off, dance like no one is watching and kiss that handsome man whose last name you just stole as much as you possibly can.

Fancy That Wedding: Lisa & Craig

November 30, 2012 - The Vintage House

Lisa and Craig are as fun as they come. Both have the most refreshing sense of humor. Put them together and you can't help but laugh and smile with them.
Lisa was looking for a romantic, autumn feel for her wedding. With the bridesmaids carrying hand-tied white hydrangea bouquets and the groomsmen wearing mango calla lilies, it was a very classic look.
Lisa's bouquet was mostly white, with pops of light pink shining through. Craig cut and hand carved all of the birch wood for the beautiful centerpieces. I hope for nothing but the best for this couple.

Congratulations Lisa & Craig!

Fancy That Wedding: Anna & Brandon

September 15, 2012 - The Gem

Brandon and Anna are a couple you read about in a romance novel. High school sweethearts, whose love is stronger and more apparent then ever before. I grew up with both Anna and Brandon, so the privilege of being involved in their big day was amazing.

The color scheme of the wedding was a dark purple and teal, which was a very elegant feel. We chose to use Picasso calla lilies for the boutonnieres and in the bouquets. As well as purple and white hydrangea and lisianthus, which was all tied together with satin ribbon wrapped bouquets.

The Gem was the perfect location for this unforgettable night. With a romantic candle lit reception, followed by the bridal party and guests dancing the night away.

Congratulations Anna & Brandon!
